I've had this clock a couple of weeks now and so far I'm happy with my purchase. But then I went into the purchase knowing the clock's limitations in advance. I have another alarm clock and bought it mainly for the projection feature and it works fine for me. I sleep in a very dark room and it's so nice to be able to glance at the ceiling and decide whether or not to roll over and go back to sleep. I also like the fact the clock displays (but doesn't project) indoor humidity. Very few do that.

On the down side: 1) the plug from the AC adapter is difficult to insert correctly. If you don't get it just right it will look like it's in but won't make contact and you'll be running off the batteries. 2) The projector could be a lot brighter. 3) The alarm isn't very loud. None of this bothers me but it may bother others.

If you are an engineer, or mechanically inclined, the poor human factors design - namely, the interrogation-light-in-the-face, so amply described in previous feedbacks - can be corrected. I cut-up a 1mil-thick black trash bag and placed it over the clock display, as well as the projection LED. This reduced light throughput by 2/3 and made the product usable in a darkened room. That's only a stop-gap solution to prevent excessive light pollution in the bedroom. I gave this product one star, because the excessive light output makes this bedside clock unusable for its intended purpose.
To be deserving of 5 stars, this product needs two changes:
1. It needs red LEDs, because human factors engineering research proves that humans respond to light frequencies above red with increased alertness, not something you want to achieve constantly with a bedside clock.
2. A photo sensor, coupled to a solid-state dimmer inside the unit will assure the right LED display and projection lamp light emittance, especially as the bedside lamp starts brightening.

I purchased this alarm clock, hoping for it to play my mp3 cd's. It said on the spec sheet at Best Buy that it did, and it also said online on the review that it plays mp3 cd's. Well, I got it home, plugged it in, it lit up the clock the clock switched between about 5 different colors and I thought, wow, that's neat. Then I proceeded to put in my mp3 cd. I pressed play, the cd spun, and then it said NO SONG. It would not play it. Then the alarm clock shut down. It won't even let me eject my cd! It won't even show the time or do anything! It only lasted 2 minutes! I am taking it back, I was baffled at how quickly it broke. Hopefully when I take it back they will bust it open and get my cd out.

I so happy I found this product on Amazon. I originally bought this clock at radio shack with a radio shack brand on it 4+ years ago for my wife for Christmas. Radio shack quit selling the product and wasn't available via web site / catalog either. My entire family loves this product. We had one in the master bedroom. Whenever the kids get sick, my wife steals it to sleep in their room. I've been looking for a product with the same unique combination of features. 1) Atomic setting. 2) Projector with mirror and brightness. 3) LARGE LED lights you can still see in the day - and large LEDs so I can read the clock directly at night without my glasses on. 4) Reliability - I'm on 4 years and it works great. 5) dual alarms with the M-F ability and weekend ability. (Love it!!!). 6) brightness level on the LED lights. (I'm extremely light sensitive when I sleep. I like it pitch dark.) I never use the radio part. I do use the different sounds - birds, ocean sounds, etc.

The reason why I'm ordering multiples is the unique combo of quality and features. I believe radio shack was [...] as well. So this is a deal at Amazon.

Other comments you'll read talk about reliability of cheap clocks. This one is rock solid. Put a battery in it. Set the wake up alarm to M-F. Literally never ever touch the clock again. Power goes out at least 2x a month for me. I never even have to think about the clock or time. Rock solid clock.

I love the projector. ALL projectors will fade out in the day. I don't mind that at all. If the projector was powerful enough to out shine sunlight, your entire room would glow red at night.

My upstairs bedrooms have slanted ceilings. There is a mirror flip switch in the clock which lets me rotate the time. Some rooms you flip the internal mirror and to project on a wall. (If you're one of the people who needs the alarm clock to be across the room to help you over come snooze button addiction you can still project above your bed). If I want it directly above me I can do that. I prefer it on the slope across the bedroom. This makes the numbers several feet in height and really dims down their brightness. (Closer you project brighter the numbers are). But this lets me look up at at 45% angle and check the time. Best thing about projector clocks are that you don't have to roll over and move items on the nightstand to see what time it is. Just open your eyes and look at the ceiling.

Dual alarm is great, I have one of the alarms set for M-F and another alarm for the weekends and holidays.
Setting the alarm is easy, one knob for each alarm time.
The radio even gets radio stations, unlike other radio's made in China.

Cons:
Automatic Time Set only means that you can tell it if it is Daylight Savings Time in effect or not, nothing automatic, in fact it is misleading.

Setting the time on this unit is utterly baffling if you do not have a manual. It should be simple to set the time on such a device by looking at the controls. This clock is WAAAY too complicated. It has time zone settings, but you have no idea what these are or how they relate to the set time without a manual. How many seconds do you have to hold a button before it performs the function it is labeled for? Check the manual. Don't have one? Too bad. This machine is a disaster. Set it once when it is new and pray you don't ever have to re-set.

For the price, I can't complain but...

Advertised as an "Automatic Time Set" clock radio, I half way expected...no fully EXPECTED it to automatically keep CORRECT time!

It doesn't.

The telephone co. stopped it's "time" service, so we bought a Sharp portable automatic clock for the office does pick up the correct time from a radio (cell phone?) signal that matches the computer and cell phones auto set clock time.

The Sony is always 1.5 to 2 minutes behind the other three in house references.

It never drifts much farther off than 1-2 minutes and I doubt that the couple of minutes difference in the alarm in the morning will be noticed, but still -- WTF!!

Maybe this is why this thing's so inexpensive?...

I was really pleased to get this clock, and have always trusted Sony, BUT, the backup battery indicator light came on as soon as I set it up. So I had to manually set up the time--not automatic as advertised. That's not so bad, but Sony evidently finds it too much trouble to just send me a battery. I made 3 calls and an email, and they are all telling me that I must send the battery to Texas and when they receive it, they will send me a battery. For a $14 radio? Come on! This is a brand new item, and what, a CR2032 battery is too priceless to mend customer relations and trust? I have purchased many Sony items in the past, but never had to ask for anything before. I can see now that customer satisfaction is very low on their priority list.

While the automatic time set feature is nice, the controls for this clock radio are poorly designed and certainly not intuitive (and yes, my manual dexterity is very good). This little clock radio looks good and gets great reception through a pig tail FM antenna with a sassy rubber bead on the end. I am able to pick up my favorite NPR station over sixty miles away about half the time. AM antenna is internal and I have not put it to the test. The projection can be adjusted 180 degrees and also with the push of a button can be turned upside-down or rightside-up making it highly adaptable for projecting to walls or ceiling. Four AA batteries, not included, can be installed to run the clock radio or just back it up. An AC adapter is included. There are two alarms, one will beep the other plays a (pre-selected) radio station. All your settings will hold for about three minutes without power or batteries. The display face is large and easy to see but the projection (on the ceiling in my case) is very poor. The digits are so narrow it's hard to tell if a three is a three or a one. But since I can see the face so easily I intend to keep it by my bed, replacing an Oregon Scientific RM313PNA Self-Setting Projection Clock, Silver which, by the way, has an excellent projection quality but no radio.

I am a HEAVY sleeper yes it take's some adjusting and learning NOT to hit snooze as it will up it each hit up to 60 mins so thats not so cool and wish I could change it so it won't do that but still not horrible. The off button for alarm is on alarm b side above the snooze button and has off imprinted in it and is a tiny bit bigger and slopes in so it over time can be figure'd out which one you hit to shut it off if. Also alarm snooze will be over righted if you set the other for 15 mins past the first and use the dual alarm set up thus making it harder to over sleep as the first snooze is 10 mins by 5 mins past that even the hard to wake up one's will wake up esp if alarm b is set 15 mins past to radio on full blast. Alarm beep sound is alright not annoying but it work's. Switch for it low or high on alarm A time adjuster. DST is hard to figure out with manual and google. I am PST so it's 5 and it will supposedly auto DST for me as I set time zone and date and year for mine but I won't know for a little bit still. But if I ever sleep that day I will know. :) Never had issues resetting or with battery, but it won't work with out the battery correctly. So if your light come's on replace the battery and read manual too as it has step's you need to take when this happens. But mine is 2 yrs old maybe more and been unplugged, and replugged in and never had an issue. Also I never had it do the alarm while unplugged as when I want to store it I turn them off and remove the battery. The last time I forgot that part and so for a few months it has had the battery in it and using it right now no issues yet. For radio antenna is in the power cord try adjusting it to make the radio work better. Also be sure you set up the snooze sleep set up for 90-15 mins to auto shut off radio after you fall asleep so the alarm will help wake you up esp with hard sleepers. All this is in the manual or I figured it out myself playing with it when we got it. I also paid $12-$15 for it and still super pleased with all I get for it. Even brightness adjuster for less bright at night low that as does hubby.

Manual can be found from sony online just google the model number amazon won't allow it in my review.

Good luck and enjoy of you buy it I know I do. I also have had like 12 alarm clocks in 20 yrs or less and this is by far the best one for the price yet. I know target had them in stock usually and cheap or amazon had sales on them too.
